Salinity is a game mechanic of the game Cell Lab, that appears in every substrate of the game and can be changed in Experimental Plates.

Description[]

Cell-lifespan

Sets the amount of salt that will be in the substrate. Substrates with low salinity will force cells to spend greater amounts of energy keeping their salt-balance, while a high Salinity will let them survive longer without any energy source.

It directly affects how much energy cells use in any given time. For example in a substrate with no light and min Salinity, a Photocyte placed from the Genome Editor will die in ~2,8h, while in the same substrate but with max Salinity, it will be able to survive ~39,6h
